The University of KwaZulu-Natal (UKZN) is one of the leading universities in South Africa, with a vibrant academic community and a diverse student population. UKZN welcomes international students from all over the world and offers a wide range of undergraduate and postgraduate programs.

Eligibility Requirements for International Students

To be eligible for admission to UKZN as an international student, you must meet the following requirements:

  • Have a Matriculation certificate or equivalent qualification recognized by the South African Matriculation Board.
  • Meet the specific academic requirements for the program you are applying to.
  • Provide proof of English language proficiency.
  • Provide financial documentation demonstrating your ability to cover your tuition fees and living expenses.

Admission to Undergraduate Studies

• Applications will only be considered if applicants provide UKZN  with an evaluation document from Universities South Africa, stating that their foreign high school qualification is equivalent to the South African school leaving certificate.   Please contact Universities South Africa(previously known as HESA) at Tel. +27 (0) 12 481 2848/7 or consult www.usaf.ac.za for more information. 

• Evaluation documents must be enclosed with your applications or submitted as soon as available.
• Official translations must be submitted if certificates are not in English.
• Applications will only be considered if English translations of documentation are provided where required.
• Pay attention to the level of performance required in specific school subjects.  These subjects are listed in the qualification tables.  Note that programmes may require more than a minimum level pass in certain subjects.  Where a subject such as Mathematics or Physical science is a requirement, the pass must be at A or AS/HIGSCE level.
• UKZN is an English medium University and applicants must meet the required performance in English. 

• The point system does not apply to international applicants
• Once all requirements are met applicants will be provided with the required letters to apply for study permits.

Admission to Postgraduate Studies

• Applications will only be considered if applicants provide UKZN with an evaluation document from South African Qualification Authority (SAQA) stating that their post schools qualifications are equivalent to the South African requirements for admission to postgraduate studies. • Evaluation documents must be enclosed with your applications or submitted as soon as available. 
• Official translations must be submitted if certificates are not in English.
• Note the level of performance required for postgraduate studies. Consult English Requirements.
Postgraduate Diplomas and Honours programmmes:
 
Once all required documentation  Heads of Schools/Departments will consider applications in line with published entrance requirements, demand and space available.  Applicants will be advised in writing of the outcome of their applications.

Selection procedures differ within Schools/Colleges.  Please contact the number provided in the Postgraduate Application Guide to obtain the required information for the programme you which to apply for.
